A Clinician’s Guide
Working with the University of Botswana, I created a set of three infographics in order to discuss snakebite envenomation, a neglected tropical disease. This disease takes tens of thousands of lives each year, yet many do not know the severity of the issue. My designs try to bridge this gap—from prevention in the village to treatment at the hospital.
My work focused specifically on clinicians and doctors. My initial poster ‘A Clinician's Guide’ acts as a study guide about first steps, severity measurement, and transport information. Since not every medical station in Botswana has access to expensive medical supplies or the limited stock of antivenom, each location would need a different set of instructions. As a result, the poster aims to help clinicians quickly arrive at the information they need based on their circumstance.
‘A Clinician's (Pocket) Guide’ is a direct offshoot of my initial poster and provides an abridged version of the severity chart and initial dosage chart. The bifold pamphlet is only the size of a credit card when folded, but it still provides life-saving information.
‘A (Northern Nigerian) Clinician’s Knowledge’ shows the areas where medical workers lack knowledge of snakebite. Since there are few studies on snakebite in Botswana specifically, I chose a comparable area, Northern Nigeria, to illustrate this discrepancy. Interestingly enough, clinicians had the most knowledge in prevention but the least knowledge in snake identification and treatment.
