A Clinician’s Guide
Informing medical professionals about a neglected disease through information design.











The Problem:

Snakebite envenomation is a neglected tropical disease that takes tens of thousands of lives each year, yet many do not know the severity of the issue, even medical workers. The University of Botswana needed an easy way to teach and guide clinicians and doctors in difficult situations.












The Solution:

‘A Clinician's Guide’ shows first steps, severity measurement, and transport information. Since not every medical station in Botswana has access to expensive medical supplies or the limited stock of antivenom, each location would need a different set of instructions. The poster uses a simple yes-or-no chart to help clinicians quickly arrive at the information they need based on their circumstance. It can be used in moments of need or as a preliminary study guide.

‘A Clinician's (Pocket) Guide’ is a direct offshoot of the main poster and provides an abridged version of the severity chart and initial dosage chart. The bifold pamphlet is only the size of a credit card when folded, so it can be easily carried in pockets or wallets. Therefore, medical professionals can quickly access the card and administer medication on-site. 

‘A (Northern Nigerian) Clinician’s Knowledge’ shows the areas where medical workers lack knowledge of snakebite. Since there are few studies on snakebite in Botswana specifically, I chose a comparable area, Northern Nigeria, to illustrate this discrepancy. This information shows clinicians where their gaps may lie and provides a baseline for study.
